Teaching Trick for Middle School Foreign Language Verbs

It goes without saying that the main focus was on USING the verb “to be” in communicative contexts. But we also sang the conjugation and made these fun little foldables for a little drill/practice of the various forms:

The students made their fortune tellers, they took their foldable to a friend and recited the conjugation while opening and closing it.

Inside are subject pronouns. When one is selected, the student must spell the corresponding form of the verb while moving the fortune teller.

Students choose one last subject pronoun, then look beneath the flap for their secret message. We brainstormed all sorts of compliments using our target verb. (fyi, my class is all girls, that’s why the adjectives are all in their feminine form.)

The girls had a great time making and sharing these with numerous classmates as a circulating activity. Soooo many opportunities for fun drill-and-practice!
